Mom’s spicy tea

I grew up with my mom often preparing and slowly sipping on a steamy spicy concoction of ginger and spices. This is a warming drink that can help your digestion get going, or as a pick me up for when you are feeling a bit sluggish. In ayurveda it is suggested to sip our drinks slowly and in small amounts so as not to overwhelm the ‘digestive fire’.


1/2 cinnamon stick

3 cloves

2 cardamom pods

1 inch of ginger


Place all the ingredients in a tea pot and let it sit for 15 mins before serving. If you want a stronger taste, leave for longer or add to a thermos can and close the lid.


  • Tip: for a bit of sweetness you can add some honey once the tea is cool and around room temperature

  • Extra tip: you can also add your black tea of preference
