For me, a part of feeling food happy is when I feel satisfied, nourished and light after eating. Here are some Ayurveda based tips that have helped me:
Chew slowly and be present whilst eating (this is still very difficult for me!)
Favour warm/cooked food
Have at least one meal a day with all 6 tastes present (sweet, sour, salt, astringent, pungent and bitter). I’ll post more about this soon
Try having your biggest meal at lunch time
Eat in a calm environment
Drink room temperature/warm water throughout the day to aid digestion
Soak beans and pulses overnight before cooking (makes them easier to digest)
Where possible, try to prepare your own food
Favour seasonal/local and fresh food
Take pleasure in the whole food experience- from deciding what you want to eat, to food shopping, preparation, arranging and plating your food (aka make it look pretty) and finally eating
